Top Ten Tuesday: audiobooks & multi-tasking

Hello, my fellow book lovers! Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in 2018. You can have a look at the future topics here! This week’s topic is all about audiobooks!

I started listening to audiobooks while on the train and bus when I was still in college. Once I graduate, I discovered there were plenty of other opportunities to get some reading done. If I didn’t read audiobooks, I would probably read “only” two books each months. I don’t always have the spoons to actually sit down and read and because of my anxiety, I prefer to multi-task while listening to an audiobook. So today, I thought I’d talk about some of the stuff I do in the meantime.

Though I have to admit that podcasts are taking over. While I haven’t neglected audiobooks, I listen to many true crime podcasts as well.

play The Sims 4

I have been playing this game ever since The Sims 2 was first released. I currently play The Sims 4 and when in build/buy mode or Create a Sims – which are my favourite things to do – I listen to an audiobook in the meantime.

handlettering, art, bullet journal

I don’t always have the energy to be creative, but when I do I like to listen to an audiobook in the meantime. Art requires some thinking – such as which colours to use, which supplies, etc. – but it’s very manageable to multi-task.

cleaning

These chores need to be done as well. Listening to an audiobook when doing the dishes, organising my desk, etc., makes those tasks more enjoyable.

transportation

As I have mentioned before, I listen to audiobooks while on public transportation. I recently got a job and I spend over an hour each day riding the bus. There’s not much else I can do while sitting in a vehicle, and I can’t handle reading a physical book on one, it makes me ill.

So these are some things I do while reading an audiobook. There are a lot of people out there who don’t think that’s really reading, but I disagree. I don’t want to get into that whole discussion right now, but as someone who is both physically and mentally disabled (anxiety, depression, etc.), I can’t sit down and read a book most days. Therefore, I am very thankful that audiobooks exist ❤

Do you read audiobooks? What do you do in the meantime?
