Each year, October is one of the biggest months for book releases, so there are plenty of books I want to discuss today! As usual, I don’t including sequels of series I haven’t started yet, even when I’m looking forward to reading them.
These are in order of publication date. When you click on the graphic, you will be brought to the book’s Goodreads page.
Sawkill Girls sounds like a spooky read, so perfect for this time of year! On top of that, it features a diverse cast of characters (there’s fat representation, asexuality and more)! Perhaps I should read it during Spook-a-thon?
Publication date: October 2nd, 2018
Becky Albertalli is one of my favourite authors, so obviously I can’t wait for What If It’s Us to be released! I actually pre-ordered a paperback copy, but sadly I’ve already been informed I won’t receive it until October 18th 😦 Nevertheless, I will read it as soon as I get my hands on it!
Publication date: October 9th, 2018
Unfortunately I can’t seem to get into magical realism, so when I read Wild Beauty at the beginning of the year, I was rather disappointed. I, however, still want to pick up Anna-Marie McLemore’s work, because so many people adore her books and I hope that all I need, is to get used to the genre. Besides, Blanca & Roja features queer characters, so that sounds right up my alley!
Publication date: October 9th, 2018
I’m always looking for more fantasy standalones to add to my TBR, and Beneath the Citadel has a beautiful cover and features queer characters of colour, so I’m keen to read it! I have yet to read Destiny Soria’s debut novel – I started Iron Cast a while ago, but wasn’t in the mood for it at the time – but I certainly still want to pick it up.
Publication date: October 9th, 2018
I wasn’t a fan of the writing style in Dear Martin, so I initially wasn’t sure whether I was going to pick up Nic Stone’s other work. That said, I know for a fact my friends are going to hype up Odd One Out – especially because if features queer characters of colour – so I’ll certainly want to read it as well.
Publication date: October 9th, 2018
Home and Away is a Young Adult contemporary starring a black girl, so that sounds like my cup of tea!
Publication date: October 16th, 2018
I was not a fan of Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me trilogy, but A Very Large Expanse of Sea is nonetheless one of my most anticipated 2018 book releases! It’s about Muslim Americans post 9/11, so this seems like a must-read!
Publication date: October 16th, 2018
Imagine Us Happy is about a girl named Stella who is depressed. The novel tackles the harmful “love cures mental illness” trope, so despite it sounding like a tough read, I’m very excited! I think this novel is going to be incredibly relatable…
Publication date: October 23rd, 2018
