Hello my fellow book lovers! Today I’m going to talk about some August 2018 book releases I’m looking forward to! I’m actually surprised so many awesome books are coming out this month.
Goodreads isn’t helpful and doesn’t show me some of the books I marked as ‘want to read’, so I’m sorry if any books I’m interested in are missing. I don’t including sequels of series I haven’t started yet.
These are in order of publication date. When you click on the graphic, you will be brought to the book’s Goodreads page.
Our Stories, Our Voices is a non-fiction anthology featuring Young Adult authors such as Aisha Saeed, Nina LaCour and Anna-Marie McLemore. In these essays they talk about growing up as a woman in the United States.
publication date: August 14th, 2018
Fresh Ink is another anthology in partnership with We Need Diverse Books. I read Flying Lessons & Other Stories last year and I quite enjoyed it, so I am keen to pick up this one. That said, Fresh Ink is a YA anthology, as opposed to Flying Lessons. It features short stories by Malinda Lo, Jason Reynolds and more!
publication date: August 14th, 2018
Seafire is the first book in a new Young Adult fantasy trilogy. It’s about a pirate ship with an all female crew and it’s apparently queer, so I had to share this with you in case you hadn’t heard about it yet!
publication date: August 28th, 2018
Mirage is a Young Adult sci-fi and though that’s usually not my go-to genre, the ARC has received many glowing reviews! It’s inspired by Morocco and the representation is #OwnVoices.
publication date: August 28th, 2018
This is the third and final anthology on today’s list. Ever since I learnt about Toil & Trouble, I’ve been looking forward to it! The short stories are said to be diverse and feature bad-ass witches.
publication date: August 28th, 2018
I know next to nothing about Darius the Great is Not Okay, but I think there’s mental health and queer representation, so that sounds amazing! Y’all know I love hard-hitting YA contemporaries and this sounds right up my alley!
publication date: August 28th, 2018
I read Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson a few months ago and while I didn’t absolutely love it, I am interested in reading more of her work. This book will be released at the end of the month, but I’ve heard positive things about the ARC, so I’m intrigued.
publication date: August 28th, 2018

I’m super excited for both Darius the Great is Not Okay and Mirage! I’m currently reading Fresh Ink and it’s okay.. I think I’m going to give it 3.5 stars or something.

Yeah, that’s usually how I feel about anthologies. I haven’t really fallen in love with one yet, but I always want to give them a chance because I think it’s a great way to discover new authors.

I have an ARC of Mirage right now, and it’s really good! So far, I definitely recommend it. 🙂 I hadn’t heard of Seafire until now, but I like the sound of it! Thanks for sharing Chelsea!
